NESE Helps You Prepare for University, College, and Graduate School Entrance in the United States
Because many of our students are eager to attend university, college or graduate school in the United States, NESE places special emphasis on providing students with the skills and guidance they need to attain their educational goals. In addition to our elective courses, TOEFL® Preparation and University Preparation, NESE also offers the Institutional TOEFL® exam to higher level students each month and provides many additional services to help prospective university students:

NESE's University Placement Services (NUPS)
NESE has special relationships with a number of universities and colleges in the Boston area and across the United States. These relationships make it possible for NESE students to apply and be accepted to a college or university without taking the official TOEFL® exam (and in many cases, without taking the SAT® or GMAT®). Depending on the individual university or college, there are two ways that students may replace the official TOEFL exam:

Completing NESE's highest level
Receiving the required score on NESE's Institutional TOEFL® exam

If you would like to receive the list of NESE's special-relationship colleges and universities, please send an e-mail to NESE's College and University Advisor at university.counseling@nese.edu.

NESE's College & University Advising Service
NESE's College and University Advisor will work closely with you to help you understand the American university application process and to make sure that your needs and abilities match those required by the academic institution of your choice. Specifically, the NESE advisor can offer assistance in two ways:

1. General Advising Service
As a NESE student you are welcome to use NESE's University Resource Library as often as you would like. In addition, you can make an appointment with NESE's College and University Advisor to discuss your academic goals and identify which schools you wish to apply to. You can also use your appointments to review your application essays with the College and University Advisor. Each appointment slot is for 20 minutes and appointments are free for full-time NESE students. You can make up to 8 appointments each session.

2. In-Depth Advising Service
NESE also offers students a more in-depth service known as NIDAS. This service will provide you with step-by-step help in choosing and applying to schools. Specifically, this service provides the following:

a. A careful analysis of your educational goals and needs
b. A recommended list of colleges or universities that meet these identified goals and needs
c. Assistance in completing the application forms for each college and university
d. Liaison service between the student and each university for all aspects of the student's application and the university's decision process
e. Ongoing and extensive counseling regarding all aspects of studying in the United States.

Please note that NESE's In-Depth Advising Service is available to both NESE and non-NESE students. If you would like more information about NIDAS, including an application form, the list of NESE's special-relationship colleges and universities, and a fee schedule, please send an e-mail to NESE's University Advisor at university.counseling@nese.edu.

In addition to the above services, NESE offers the following to all NESE students free of charge:

NESE's Conditional Admittance Program
Many of NESE's partner colleges and universities also offer a Conditional Admittance program, which means that a student can be accepted into these colleges or universities before having attained the required English level. This acceptance, however, is "conditional", the condition being that the student must raise his English level to meet the school's requirement. Completing NESE's highest levels or taking NESE's Institutional TOEFL® exam usually fulfills this requirement.

Application Workshop
These workshops are held 3 times each year. Each workshop focuses on applying to university, college, or graduate school in the United States. A special emphasis is placed on the personal statement that all universities and colleges require as part of the application packet.

University Resource Library
A resource library full of hundreds of current university catalogs and guides and a large computer database about applying to American universities and colleges is available for your use at all times. In addition, you will find many guides and practice tests for standardized exams such as GMAT, GRE, SAT, and LSAT.

Meeting with University Admissions Staff
University admissions officers are always interested in visiting NESE to meet with students and to answer their questions. As a result, NESE regularly holds university and college information sessions, and invites a different school to each session. These sessions provide students with an ideal opportunity to learn more about a program that they might be considering and to meet admissions staff directly.

Attendance at University Classes
Local universities and colleges welcome advanced-level NESE students to their courses. These courses provide an ideal opportunity to experience American university life, improve your English, and make American friends. NESE will help make all arrangements necessary for you to register for these courses. Harvard University, located just across the street from NESE, provides a perfect opportunity for advanced-level students to take evening courses. (Please understand that NESE students will be required to meet the university's standards for attendance and apply directly to the university they wish to attend. Please check individual universities for their specific schedules, costs and requirements.).

NESE students have continued their studies at many area universities. Some examples are Harvard University (adjacent to NESE), MIT (2 kilometers from NESE), Boston University (4 kilometers from NESE), Northeastern University (4 kilometers from NESE), Suffolk University (4 kilometers from NESE), and Lasell College (10 kilometers from NESE).

We look forward to helping you plan your future academic program in the United States. You are welcome to contact us at any time with your questions. We are here to help you.
