A Warm Welcome
Because all teaching, counseling, and activities at NESE happen in a warm and supportive environment, you will feel welcomed from the moment you arrive. NESE's welcome will continue to be demonstrated throughout your stay by all our teachers and staff. They will answer your questions and provide any guidance and assistance you may need. They will be supportive and encourage you to discover new places, meet new people, and try new things. NESE is more than just an English school; it is your family in the United States.

Orientation Program
During your first week at NESE, we will introduce you to your new life in the United States through our Orientation Program. During this orientation period, we will teach you what you need to know about daily life so that your transition to NESE, Harvard Square, and Boston will be easy.

Meeting Americans
One of the most frequent questions we hear is "How can I meet Americans?" NESE understands that you have chosen to study English in the United States because meeting Americans and experiencing their way of life and culture is as important to you as learning English. From "on the street" interviews to our guest speaker and community volunteer programs, NESE has carefully designed its curriculum both to maximize your contact with Americans and to fully immerse you in their rich and diverse culture.

Guest Speakers
To further enhance your contact with Americans and their culture, NESE regularly invites guest speakers to the school to talk about a wide variety of interesting topics. One of NESE's most popular lectures is by a group of Harvard students who present a conversation forum on American culture and current events. In this interactive debate, you will share ideas, make friends, and practice your new English language skills. Other popular lecturers include professionals in business, science, government, and the arts.

Trips Throughout the Boston Area
NESE takes students on trips to Boston's museums, theaters, and sporting events, as well as to the area's famous historical sites, universities, and international corporations. You will be amazed by the size of the whales on our whale watching trips and the magnificence of The Mayflower on our trips to Plymouth Plantation (one of the first villages in the United States). You will cheer the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Celtics, and you will learn how to ride the rapids on our popular white water rafting trips in Maine.

Use of the MIT Fitness Center
NESE has made special arrangements for its students to use the Fitness Center at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), one of the most famous universities in the United States. Located only one subway stop from NESE (and a short walk from Green Hall), the MIT Fitness Center offers a 50-meter swimming pool, personal training, and a wide range of events and activities. Students can use the Nautilus machines, take aerobic classes, and play basketball and soccer. MIT Fitness Center members can also arrange to take CPR and first aid classes. Students must have a NESE ID card to use the MIT Fitness Center and an extra fee is required.
